When a storm passes, the second storm is paperwork. The first estimate an insurer offers is exactly that — an offer — and it is often lower than what it costs to make you whole.
Document before you clean up
Photograph everything before removing a single board, keep receipts for emergency repairs, and read your policy for deadlines that quietly run against you. A denial letter usually explains the basis for the denial; that explanation is the map for challenging it.
You are allowed to disagree, to get independent estimates, and to ask for the specific policy language behind a decision. Persistence, documented, moves numbers. (Sample post; not advice.)
